Popis: | It is believed that a lack of employment opportunities in manufacturing or agriculture has forced large numbers of workers to seek employment in small-scale urban activities such as petty commerce and miscellaneous services, where skill requirements are low and entry is easy. The size of the urban labor force outside manufacturing is often considered a rough proxy for the number of workers engaged in these activities, and rapid expansion of the cities, combined with the slow growth of employment in industry, is therefore considered a symptom of excess labor supply.
