Popis: Between October 1992 and April 1994 at Confidence Clinic for female sex workers in Abidjan Ivory Coast 1209 patients agreed to be tested for HIV so researchers could examine the association between sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and HIV infection as well as HIV-related immunosuppression. The overall HIV prevalence was 80%. 47% were HIV-1 seropositive 3% were HIV-2 seropositive and 30% were both HIV-1 and HIV-2 seropositive. Factors independently associated with HIV infection at a significance level of 5% were being an immigrant (adjusted odds ratio [OR] = 2.4) longer duration of prostitution (OR = 1.4 for 13-24 months 1.6 for 25-60 months and 2 for >60 months) lower price for intercourse (OR = 1 for >or= 2000 francs vs. 4.8 for 28% CD4 cells 25% for 14-28% CD4 cells and 36% for
