Popis: | The year 1990 was characterized by deepening political dissension among the leaders of the SOC (State of Cambodia), formerly the PRK (People's Republic of Kampuchea); the stagnation of, and widening public dissatisfaction with the country's corruption-ridden economy; and the broadening grip of antigovernment guerrillas in the eastern half of SOC territory. Worse, despite seemingly broad peace-seeking agreement among the permanent U.N. Security Council members (the "Perm Five") and frequent face-to-face discussions among different Cambodian faction leaders, acceptance of the key elements of the actual peace process for the country ran into new obstacles. |
