The amount of the main lipid classes as well as their fatty acid composition were determined in four Cladophora species. Three of them (Cladophora rivularis (L.) Hoek, C. laetevirens (Dillw.) Kutz. and C. sericea (Huds.) Kudz.) inhabit the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, while C. glomerata (L.) Kutz. is a freshwater alga. Glicolipids are the main lipid class, monogalactosyl diacylglycerols being the predominent component. The main fatty acids are palmitic and linolenic, with relatively high concentrations of 14:0, 16:1 and 16:4 acids. There are no statistically significant differences between marine and freshwate species, neither in lipid composition nor in the fatty acid profiles. The possibilities of using the lipid and fatty acid composition as a taxonomic marker afre discussed. |
