In recent decades, local and metropolitan authorities worldwide have shown an increasing interest in applying new development strategies that integrate transport and land-use solutions to mitigate the negative consequences of development on the physical and social environment and the economy in urban areas. The progressive application of the smart city paradigm in different urban development sectors from mobility to urban services is influencing decision-makers’ and stakeholders’ choices. This research proposes a new spatial analysis method to evaluate the “smartness” of land-use and transport integration projects using an updated version of the Node-Place Butterfly model. The method was applied to the 18 stations area of Line 1 of the Naples metro. The results showed significant variation in the level of smartness from the city centre to the peripheral areas, with Node and Place components unbalanced for some stations. |
