Since the advent of the laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the last 2 decades, minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has evolved through advances in videoscopic technology, instrumentation, and surgical techniques. As surgeons have gained experience with the laparoscopic approach, conditions once considered contraindications to laparoscopic cholecystectomy, such as the inflammation of acute cholecystitis and common bile duct obstruction, are now frequently treated with MIS. The following serves as a review of the basic technique of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. |
