Popis: | Quantitative determination of alpha fetoprotein (AFP) in biological fluids by a direct and rapid radioimmunoassay (sandwich type) is reported. The present midification of an earlier described method facilitates rapid and accurate distribution of the patients within 3 groups with regard to relative AFP concentration. It requires only the use of 2 standard solutions and 2 incubation periods (1 and 3 hours). Each patient may then within 5 hours after beginning of the assay procedure be adequately grouped as belonging to a category with nonpregnant AFP levels with normal pregnancy levels or with suspected or definitely too high levels of AFP. This information may be valuable in evaluating the prognosis of a pregnancy with vaginal bleeding. This procedure may be operated in any routine laboratory with access to a gamma scintillation counter. |
