Popis: | Summary (1) Eighteen patients suffering from ischaemic heart disease and whose fasting serum cholesterol was at or above 300 mg/100 ml have been treated with Atromid and their serum cholesterol and whole blood clot lysis time studied serially over a 5-month period. (2) The fibrinolytic activity of this group of patients was significantly lower than that of healthy young controls and this activity correlated inversely with the serum cholesterol level. (3) Atromid lowered the serum cholesterol within 1 month by a mean of 102 mg/ 100 ml (27 % reduction) and this was maintained over the next 4 months. (4) The fibrinolytic activity was enhanced Pari passu with the reduction in serum cholesterol by a mean increase of 7 units (43 %) and there was a statistically significant correlation between these 2 parameters. |
