Popis: | The authors report a case of bilateral stenosis of the supraclinoid carotid arteries in a young man. These stenoses are associated with poor cerebral vascularization, a pseudoangiomatous appearance of the base of the brain and intracavernous aneurysms of the internal carotid arteries. The similarity of the left and right carotid arteriograms obtained at a one year interval, refutes the possibility of arterial spasm due to subarachnoid hemorrhage. The evolution of the patient's condition with hemiparetic attacks which regressed, the young age of the patient and the aspect of collateral intracranial vascularization lead the authors to decide upon a diagnosis of Moyamoya disease as described by Japanese workers, using this term to define an angiographic syndrome rather than a particular clinical anatomical entity. The simultaneous existence of several aneurysms favours the congenital origin of the lesions observed . |
