Popis: | Countries around the world have witnessed a tremendous increase in women’s numerical representation in Parliament. This has largely been attributed to the introduction of gender quotas in more than 130 countries world-wide. Countries, however, vary as to whether they introduce gender quotas and in what form. This is partly determined by the constitutional model of democratic representation they adhere to. This chapter examines the different models of representation reflected in the constitutions of contemporary democratic states: models of national sovereignty, popular sovereignty, and popular representation, and what the consequences are of each model for the constitutionality of gender quotas. |
