Popis: | Human monoclonal IgM globulins often have binding activity for such auto-antigens as IgG, erythrocyte antigens, and clotting factors. The present paper describes a serum with a monoclonal IgM (λ-type) which formed strong precipitin lines with many sera from patients with malignant diseases. The IgM was purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation and gel filtration, and the purified IgM retained all the precipitating activity of the serum. The antigen it reacted with was shown to be C-reactive protein (CRP). The naturally occuring 8S subunit of the IgM as well as the mildly reduced and alkylated IgM failed to precipitate CRP, although both still could combine with this antigen. |
