| Popis: | This paper reports on a collaborative study of the health effects of urban migration. After presenting some current hypotheses about mechanisms involved, the results of a pilot study in Senegal are presented. This study compared a group of rural residents to a similar tribal group that had migrated to an urban area and also sought to measure each urban individual's adaptation to urban life. This adaptation measure was then related to certain physiological measurements. The report concludes with some general recommendations for studying the health effects of urban migration. |
