Popis: | The intestinal contents of 8 patients with viral hepatitis and 5 patients without liver disease were collected after a lipid meal. Total lipid concentration in the intestinal contents did not differ significantly in the two groups. However, bile acid concentration was significantly lower in the hepatitis group (4.2 α 3.9 mmoles per liter, mean αsd) than in the controls (12 α 4.4 mmoles per liter). No unconjugated bile acids were found in samples from any of the patients. The concentration of lipids in the micellar phase, obtained by centrifugation, was significantly lower in patients with hepatitis (1.7 α 1.3 mg per ml) than in controls (5.9 α 4.7 mg per ml). The relationship of these findings to steatorrhea in viral hepatitis is discussed. |
