Popis: A reduction in the serum concentration of sodium is one of the commonest biochemical abnormalities in hospital inpatients. In most cases it should be regarded as an incidental finding which will be corrected with treatment of the underlying condition. In certain situations, however, it can produce severe life-threatening neurological disease. Evidence has also been produced that in some situations ill-advised treatment can induce equally severe neurological disease. Management therefore demands an understanding of the causes and pathophysiology of hyponatraemia
