Popis: | Background: The aim of the present study was to examine whether the amount of time spent watching television is a potential risk factor for incident diabetes and to what extent this association may be explained by obesity. Methods: We used data for 23 855 men and women from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition–Potsdam Study. During an average of 7.8 years of follow-up, 927 participants developed diabetes. Incident diabetes was identified on the basis of self-report and was verified by contacting the patient’s attending physician. The amount of time spent watching television was self-reported.
