Popis: | Divers and Melia (2002) argue by reductio that the genuine modal realist cannot satisfy the left-to-right direction of the universal closure of (P) without resort to modal primitives. In their terminology, the reductio aims to show that genuine modal realism is incomplete. Achieving completeness and consistency (the right-to-left direction in (P)) without resort to modal primitives is one of genuine modal realism's chief ambitions, at least in the hands of David Lewis, its originator and leading proponent. Thus if the reductio succeeds, genuine modal realism cannot achieve this ambition. My article will explain why the reductio fails. |
