Popis: | The duration of action of two commercially available "long-acting" adrenocorticotropin (ACTH) preparations was assessed after subcutaneous injection into rats. Plasma and adrenal corticosterone levels were measured as indices of ACTH secretion. Duracton, Nordic (ACTH in carboxymethylcellulose), in doses up to 32 I.U. was effective in stimulating adrenal cortical secretion for less than 12 h. Cortrophin-Zinc, Organon (ACTH – zinc hydroxide), in a dose of 32 I.U., did maintain high plasma and adrenal corticosterone levels for at least 24 h. Therefore the daily subcutaneous administration of Cortrophin-Zinc will maintain high constant circulating levels of exogenously administered ACTH in the rat. |
