It is essential to acquire four basic language skills in Turkish education. Four basic language skills are listening/monitoring, speaking, reading and writing. Writing is different from speaking because it is learned at school. In 2018 Turkish Language Teaching Program (Primary, Secondary, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Grades) are given to gain and develop writing skills. Taking into consideration these achievements, secondary school textbooks have been written in order to be read from the beginning of the 2018-2019 academic year. These textbooks have not been studied in terms of the status of writing gains. The aim of this study is to examine the textbooks of the 5, 6, 7 and 8 grade textbooks prepared according to the 2018 Turkish Teaching Program in terms of writing gains. Document analysis method was used in the research. Content analysis technique was used for data collection. In the study, it was concluded that writing gains between the books and within the books were not used regularly. Book authors do not observe a system in the distribution of the gains after using the gains at least once. Some achievements are addressed in the program only at the single grade level. The frequency of using gains varies between books. Based on the findings and results of the study, some suggestions were presented to the authors of the book. |
