The performance of eco-races of eri silkworm varied with respect to pupal weight, rate of pupation, moth emergence, fecundity and hatchability. In the current investigation, the eco-races of eri silkworm (Borduar, Dhanubanga, Khanapara, Kokrajhar, Mendipathar and Titabar) were reared on castor hybrid/variety (DCH-177 and Local Pink) to record the grainage parameters. Higher pupal weight, rate of pupation, moth emergence, fecundity and hatchability were recorded when eri silkworm nourished with the leaf Local Pink castor variety over DCH-177 hybrid. Among the eco-races of eri silkworm, Borduar registered significantly superior grainage parameters as compared to Kokrajhar, Titabar, Mendipathar, Dhanubanga and Khanapara. Further, interaction between castor hybrid/variety and eco-races, Local Pink x Borduar registered significantly higher pupal weight (3.153 g), rate of pupation (97.05 %), rate of moth emergence (97.98 %), fecundity (420 eggs/laying) and egg hatching (97.10 %). However, pupal weight (2.556 g) was lowest with DCH-177 x Khanapara, while rate of pupation (79.73 %), fecundity (300 eggs/laying) and rate of moth emergence (89.04 %) were least with DCH-177 x Kokrajhar and egg hatching (94.78 %) was less with DCH-177 x Mendipathar. The study revealed that, the Borduar eco race of eri silkworm reared on Local Pink castor variety showed superiority for grainage parameters as compared to other eco races. |
