Popis: | Recipients of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor/granulocyte macrophage-colony stimulating factor are not only individuals with underlying disorders, but also healthy donors undergoing peripheral blood progenitor cell (PBPC) mobilization. In addition to the known adverse effects associated with G-CSF, complications such as splenic rupture have also been reported. A review of the English literature, with addition of a patient with plasma cell myeloma, reveals that splenic rupture occurs not only in patients with underlying disease, but also in healthy PBPC donors. Although the cause of splenic rupture does not appear to be associated with any specific condition, physicians should be alerted to the possibility of this potentially fatal complication in individuals receiving G-CSF therapy. |
