Popis: Androgen deprivation therapy is the most widely used systemic treatment for locally advanced and metastatic prostate cancer. Leuprolide acetate, a synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor agonist, has proven effective in controlling prostate cancer by suppressing gonadotropic secretion of luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone, which subsequently decrease the testosterone level. The most common physical adverse effects of androgen deprivation therapy include fatigue, hot flushes, anemia, decreased muscle mass, osteoporosis, loss of libido, and erectile dysfunction. Adverse neuropsychiatric effects, such as depression, anxiety, and cognitive impairment, are also frequently noted, but the mechanisms underlying these adverse effects of androgen deprivation therapy have not yet been determined.
