Popis: | The occurrence of second degree and complete atrioventricular (A-V) block in acute myocardial infarction has been considered generally a poor prognostic sign. The immediate mortality rates are reported to be considerably higher in cases with acute myocardial infarction complicated by A-V block than in those without block. Katz and Mintz I calculated mortality rates of 54.6 and 100 per cent in second degree and complete blocks, respectively. Master 2 noted 33 per cent mortality in partial block and 67 per cent mortality in complete heart block. However, the number of cases included in both of these series was small. Master also reported that first degree A-V block has little effect on the prognosis of acute myocardial infarction. He found the incidence of second and third degree A-V block occurring in the course of acute myocardial infarction to be 3 and 1.2 per cent, respectively. The purpose of this study is to define the immediate and long-term prognosis of myocardial infarction with this complication in a series larger than previously reported, and to point out some related factors which may directly affect the mortality and survival. |
