Popis: | Three of 14 cases of progressive dysphagia with narrowing or obstruction of the esophagus are presented to demonstrate the value of Pro-Banthine as an aid in esophageal examination. Associated spasm may interfere with radiologic diagnosis of the disease or the extent of involvement. Due to its anticholinergic and spasmolytic effects, Pro-Banthine administered during examination will localize the stricture, allow better visualization of the mucosal pattern, and permit demonstration of the otherwise unseen distal portion of the esophagus. As a palliative measure, Pro-Banthine may allow the patient to resume liquid diet or at least decrease discomfort by its anti-secretory effect on the salivary glands. |
