Popis: | 295 cases of amoebic colitis admitted to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, during 8 years are reviewed. The disease accounts for 2% of the annual admissions into this institution. Clinically there are 2 forms—mild-moderate and severe. 70% of the patients had the mild form, and 30% the severe form. The severe form was more common in children, pregnancy and puerperium and in malnourished states. Statistically, the association between amoebic colitis and the pregnancy-puerperal states is highly significant. |
