Popis: | This article provides an overview of concerns about particulate matter (PM2.5) in the USA. Data are given on the composition of PM2.5 at representative urban and rural locations in North America. Future challenges in PM research are: outdoor measurements comapred with actual human exposures; exposures of susceptible subpopulations to toxic PM components; characterisation of emission surces; air quality model development and testing; assessment of hazardous PM components; deposition and fat of particles in the respiratory tract; combined effects of PM and gaseous pollutants; defining susceptible subpopulations; mechanisms of injury; and analysis and measurement of health risks. |
