Popis: | trophic disorder lacking retinal differentiation, with secondary degeneration resulting in accu mulation of cellular debris and macrophages in the subretinallayer that causes spots or flecks to develop in the fundus after birth. Although progression of the marbelized appearance has been described in Leber's congenital arnauro sis.' our patient showed only minimal progres sion between ages 3 and 10 years. This suggests that ongoing ophthalmoscopically evident de generation may stabilize in these cases. Sys temic and neurologic abnormalities can occur with both juvenile nephronophthisis and Leb er's congenital amaurosis, including the dilated brain ventricles of our patient. However, cryp torchidism in cases of Leber's congenital amau rosis is unknown, as is the appearance of a marbelized fundus in cases of renal-retinal syn drome. As this case demonstrates, the appear ance of a marbelized fundus with Leber's con genital amaurosis may warrant a systemic evaluation for associated abnormalities. |
