Popis: | An analysis was made of the 32 cesarean hysterectomies and 465 tubal ligations performed at the Lutheran Hospital of Milwaukee during 1963-1967. Patients were 25-41 years of age. All primary hysterectomies (9) were apparently associated with pathology. The major complication in the cesarean hysterectomies was severe anemia due to massive blood loss (5). Tubal ligations were interval sterilizations (10%) associated with cesarean sections (20%) or noncesarean puerperal ligations (70%). Overall complications (2.6%) included 2 5 and 5 associated with cesarean section puerperal sterilization and other surgery respectively. Tubal ligation can be performed by laparotomy culdotomy and laparotomy. In a young woman tubal ligation is often preferred since emotional support may be gained by retention of the uterus. When tubal ligation would most likely be followed by further surgery more definitive surgery is indicated to begin with. |
