Popis: | Almost all the very large volume of work that followed the introduction by Puck and Marcus (1) in 1956 of the clonal-survival technic for determining the radiosensitivity of cells in tissue culture has been concerned with established cell lines. In the hands of an investigator in one laboratory this technic yielded strikingly reproducible results for a particular cell line. Very little work has been done with primary cultures of cells. The possibility of using the technic to assay the radiosensitivity of individual clinical tumors before deciding on a particular course of radiotherapy is very attractive, however, and with this in mind the present experiment was designed to determine the radiosensitivities of primary cultures of cells from a series of morphologically similar tumors in rats. Methods For this experiment Chester Beatty Research Institute colony-bred albino rats six weeks old were employed. In each animal a 10-mg pellet of 3:4 benzpyrene was implanted subcutaneously in the right flank. Tumors ... |
