Popis: | Detailed information of particle properties is needed to predict the effects of aerosols in the atmosphere. Chemical composition carries information about the formation mechanisms of the particles. We have developed a method to detect the density of outdoor particles and have applied it to boreal forest aerosols. The average density value of boreal forest nucleation mode particles is 1.1g/cm 3 , and degreases with increasing mode GMD. The density value for Aitken mode is approximately 0.8 g/cm 3 . The Aitken and nucleation mode particles seem to have the same origin, while the nucleation mode particles seem to grow into Aitken mode by condensation of some lighter compound. The density obtained for accu- mulation mode is ca.1.5 g/cm 3 and it seems to increase slightly with increasing particle size. |
