Popis: | The catabolism of sorbitol-U- 14 C has been investigated in liver slices of rats fasted for 24 hours. About 3% of the sorbitol carbon was oxidized to CO 2 and 68% was converted into glucose. The lipid-free residue of the slices contained 14% of the 14 C. About 2% of the 14 C was recovered in the ketone bodies, 0.5% in the triglycerides, and 0.6% in the phospholipids. The free and esterified fatty acids contained little 14 C, but sorbitol carbon was used in the formation of the glycerol moiety. Formation of l -glycerol 1-phosphate from sorbitol may play a part in the antiketogenic action of the polyol. |
