Popis: | A study of 2,238 consecutive patients admitted to the hospital evaluated a rapid-test tablet for measurement of urine bilirubin. The test proved simple and reliable. Routine testing of urine at the time of admission hastened the diagnosis of biliary tract disease in a few instances. In addition to positive findings in cases of acute and, in many instances, chronic biliary tract disease, some positive reactions were also found in patients with other serious diseases who may or may not have had biliary tract disease. The study yielded 3.5% positive reactions. The overall rate of falsely positive reactions was 0.13% (3.8% of positive reactions). Falsely negative reactions were not identified. The incidences of positive and negative reactions in patients with a number of diseases of the hepatobiliary tract are tabulated. |
