Serendipitous diagnosis of multiple myeloma during sestamibi myocardial perfusion imaging

| Popis: | A 68-year-old man was referred for routine dipyridamole-Tc-99m sestamibi myocardial perfusion imaging before discharge from the hospital after an acute myocardial infarction. Prompted by the observation of abnormal uptake by the ribs and spine on the dipyridamole myocardial perfusion images, a whole-body sestamibi scan was acquired, which showed intense diffuse bone marrow uptake suggestive of bone marrow malignancy (multiple myeloma, lymphoma, leukemia) or diffuse skeletal metastases. Radiographs showed multiple small areas of osteolysis, and further investigation confirmed a diagnosis of multiple myeloma. |
