Popis: | The Physical Activity and Health Branch of the Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention organized and hosted the International Congress on Physical Activity and Public Health, held April 1720, 2006, in Atlanta, Georgia. The fi rst purpose of the Congress was to celebrate the 10-y anniversary of the publication of the US Surgeon General s Report on Physical Activity and Health. Secondly, we sought to provide an interdisciplinary forum for exchanging information on current research and practice in the area of physical activity and public health. More than 850 registrants from 45 countries helped to make the Congress a success. Five invited plenary lectures were presented at the Congress. All fi ve speakers were asked to focus their remarks on the role that the Surgeon General s Report has played, and progress since the Report in fi ve critical areas: dose-response relations between physical activity and health, the scientifi c rationale for the accumulation of multiple short episodes of physical activity, promotion of physical activity, assessment and surveillance of physical activity, and the future of physical activity and public health. Coincident with the goal of the Congress, all plenary speakers were asked to limit their remarks to the immediate past 10 y. |
