Popis: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurologicaldisease which affects approximately 2.5 millionpeople around the world (1). In the management ofMS, as well as other chronic diseases for whichcure is not possible, the main goal of health care isoften the optimization of the patients important in HRQoL in MS (8); we performed thehealth-related quality of life (HRQoL). Although there isno generally accepted definition of HRQoL, thereseems to be a consensus that aspects of physical, functional, social and psychological health, shouldbe included in HRQoL assessments. The medical outcomes study 36-item short formhealth survey (SF-36) is the most widely usedpatient-based generic measure of health (2). Itmeasures two major health concepts (physical andmental health) with 36 questions and eight multi-item scales. The results from studies performedwith SF-36 questionnaire reflect the impact of thedisease from patient perspective. Patients considermeasures of HRQoL, which are the subjectiveperception of their overall status, as more import-ant than impaired physical function (3).Several studies have examined HRQoL inpatients with MS (4–7). However, to our bestknowledge, none has analyzed this matter in theSouth-east European countries. Having in mindthat it has been demonstrated that pressure causedby dramatically changed socio-economic circum-stances, as well as coping with this pressure, isinvestigation in a cohort of MS patients in Serbia. The aims of our investigation were to assess self-reportedHRQoLinagroupofSerbianMSpatients,using the SF-36 questionnaire, and to analyzewhether HRQoL dimensions were associated withphysical and emotional functioning in thesepatients. Furthermore, we compared HRQoL inMS patients with HRQoL in patients with non-neurologicalchronicillness,diabetesmellitustype2.
