| Popis: | In Harmonic Serialism, place assimilation can be modeled as taking one deriva- tional step or two. These options correspond to whether a basic place assimilation operation is available to Gen or not. This paper compares these two possibilities against attested place assimilation patterns, focusing on progressive place assim- ilation. While the one-step analysis is successful, the two-step analysis is shown not to handle certain assimilation patterns. |
