Popis: | Rats infused intravenously with homologous renin (0.1–16 U) for 40 min exhibited a linear relation between administered dose and water intake. At the lower doses, observed plasma renin activities also were proportional to water consumption but the intakes were not very large. These results are consistent with other recent findings that raised doubts about the normal role of angiotensin as a dipsogen. At the higher doses, plasma renin activities and angiotensin I levels were reduced compared to the lower doses of renin suggesting that plasma renin substrate had been severely depleted. The explanation for the sustained increases in water intake remains to be determined. |
