Popis: In face of the transition from modernity to contemporary society, sociological theories were presented with the challenge of approaching the current social transformations, by analyzing not only aspects related to possessions – material goods, the objective world – but also those related to the individual’s perceptions about their own living conditions, in order to understand the social change. Aiming to respond to this challenge, the present article does not intend to create a new theory, but rather to bring to Sociology Amartya Sen’s perspective of capabilities and the Livelihoods perspective developed by Ellis and Scoones, through a mid-range theory, namely the Sociology of Living Conditions (SLC), highlighting the multidimensionality of this approach to the analysis of development.
