Appropriate Technology in Transportation of Sick Newborns in Developing Countries

Popis:	Thirty-two high-risk newborns requiring continuing special care were transported to one hospital or another. They were transported in styropor boxes in order to maintain temperature. Oxygen was bubbled through the ventilatory hole of the box. The babies receiving inotrope infusion continued to receive it during transportation. Babies getting intragastric feed received their feeds 30–45 min before transportation. No baby became hypothermic or failed to maintain colour or required resuscitation during transportation. Heart rate and respiratory rate remained in an acceptable range.
