Popis: | The membrane surrounding the hip joint containing metal endoprostheses were examined in 20 patients using histology and the scanning electron microscope (SEM). No synovial cells were found. The capsule was dense fibrous tissue, covered at the surface with an amorphous membrane of doubtful composition. Several questions have been raised, such as the role of synovial cells in cartilage nutrition, the nature of the fluid in these joints, and secretion into and absorption out of the artificial joint. |
