Popis: | Summary A firm biological foundation for the beneficial effect of carbon-arc light treatment is still lacking. Based on the assumption of a protective effect against infection, the investigations reported in this paper concern the production of antibodies in children during treatment with universal carbon-arc light. Parallel control groups, treated with light of an indifferent ultraviolet content or with no light at all, were used in the studies. The formation of tetanus antitoxin after immunization with the usual doses of tetanus prophylactic could not be shown to be influenced by carbon-arc light treatment. Neither was it possible to influence the tuberculin sensitivity of naturally positive persons, nor the development of local lesions and tuberculin allergy after vaccination with BCG. Attention is drawn to investigations concerning the neuro-muscular system, physical capacity, and metabolic variations, as possibly being fruitful spheres for continued study, and strong emphasis is laid on the absolute necessity of accurate dosimetry in future scientific investigations concerning the biological effect of light. |
