Popis: Cardiovascular diseases have similar pathophysiologic mechanisms which lead patient from risk factors, such as dyslipidemia, smoking, high blood pressure etc. to congestive heart failure and finally – to death (Fig. 1.). This global approach to the natural history of cardiac pathology has been proposed at the end of the twentieth century and remains current till now (Cheung, 2006). Thyroid dysfunction is a common clinical problem which plays a key role in the regulation of the cardiovascular system and can contribute to the clinical course of coronary artery disease (CAD). As it was shown on Fig.1 thyroid dysfunction can affect almost all chains of this continuum and its influence should be taken into account when treating patients with CAD.
