Popis: | Laboratory test animals have been shown to excrete appreciable amounts of serotonin-O-sulfate after the administration of large doses of serotonin1,2. However, the presence of this serotonin metabolite in the urine of normal man given oral loads of serotonin or in the urine of patients with carcinoid tumors has not been demonstrated 2,3. Recently, methods were developed in this laboratory for the quantitative determination of serotonin-O-sulfate in human urine4. This communication describes a method which utilizes ion exchange resins for the isolation and identification of serotonin-O-sulfate from the urine of patients with carcinoid tumors. |
