The phenomena of added (virtual) mass of the submerged structure exposed to vibration are evaluated experimentally using delta residual force vector. The proposed approach is based on the experimentally identified modal parameters i.e. natural frequencies and natural modes ; however it requires the finite element model of structure, as well. The added mass is detected as fraction of finite element mass (change of element mass) and therefore good estimate of the model matrices is required. The procedure involves the model update and the reduction of system matrices and their respective roles have been discussed. Depending on the available number of modes it is possible to determine the distribution of the added mass along of the submerged part of structure. The theoretical background is provided and proposed technique of detection of locally added mass is compared to the classical concept of modal added mass. |
