Popis: | 25 pp. (2006). A resonator pick-up with spherical mirrors may provide a good coupling to the beam that one aims at measuring, while allowing an efficient rejection of the parasitic waveguide modes that propagate in the wake of the bunches, thanks to a large quality factor for the diffraction losses. In this study, we perform FEMLAB simulations and experimental measurements of a purely confocal resonator, and we show that such a configuration is highly unstable, in particular due to the presence of a large number of eigen-modes at the frequency of interest (15 GHz). Instead, we investigate the electromagnetic properties of a nearly-confocal resonator. The results reported in this paper suggest that such a configuration is much more adequate for the design of a resonator pick-up with good rejection of the parasitic waveguide modes. |
