Popis: In the past few years, the increase in incidence of hospital acquired infections combined with outbreaks of bacterial resistant strains and high costs for several antibacterial drugs has pointed to the demand for antibacterial drugs targeting new biological sites. In order to expand the arsenal of compounds with antibacterial activities, we combined 1,3-dimethylbarbiturate carbanion (2) with 7-chloro-6-fluoro-8-nitroquinolone (1) yielded the respective 7-(5-(1,3-dimethylbarbitutic))-quinolone hybrid (3). The new compounds were screened for their antibacterial activities against both gram positive and negative strains. A low to moderate antibacterial activity was shown against both gram positive and negative strains for the compounds (2), (3) and (7).
