We review the work at the Clarendon Laboratory, Oxford, directed at the generation of very high pulsed magnetic fields. This includes the in-house manufacture of a high-strength copper-stainless steel macro-composite wire. A description of the process is given with typical properties presented. New types of coil construction, such as two- and three-section solenoids, are discussed and their relative performances are quantified. Fields up to 63 T have been achieved.
