Popis: | Calculus formation in the urinary bladder secondary to a perforated intra-uterine contraceptive device (IUCD) has been previously described. Zakin et al (1981) reviewing the world literature described six cases, five involving the Lippes Loop and one due to a Dalkon shield. Woods and Wise (1980) described a further case involving a Dalkon shield. We report what appears to be the first case involving a Copper-7 IUCD and the first occasion on which ultrasound was utilised to confirm the ectopic vesical site of the IUCD. A 39-year-old (para 4) woman presented to the radiology department in April 1983 for an IVP. She had a six-month history of dysuria and frequency with offensive urine, culminating in admission for suspected acute pyelonephritis. There was no history of dysmenorrhoea, menorrhagia or abdominal pain. Laboratory examination revealed pyuria with significant growth of E. coli. |
