Department of Chemistry, University of Lucknow, Lucknow-226 007 Manuscript received 7 April 1982, accepted 10 March 1983 A series of substituted 2-phenyl-3-arylquinazol-4-ones (9-26) have been synthesised starting with substituted 2-phenyl-3-(3-bydroxy-4-carboxyphenyl)quinazol-4-ones (5-7). All the compounds have been evaluated for their in vitro growth inhibitory activity against the bacteria E. coli, B. subtilisand X. citri and the fungi A. flavus and F. semitactum. Compounds 9 and 23-26 showed marked antibacterial and antifungal activities. |
