| Popis: | During a preliminary excavation in the nearby area to the Iglesia Vieja de San Vicente de Potes (Cantabria) several archaeological remains were documented. This resulted in the verification of the existence of a medieval cemetery in the area. Judging by the type of inhumations (slab covered graves) and the results provided by the radiocarbon data it was possible to give a closer time frame (end of the X century beginning of the XI). This study focuses away from the traditional empiricist link that is usually associated to this type of archaeological site. It is believed that the archaeological evidence given at this particular site is enough to draw conclusions to a more social level. From this premise it will be shown the relation between the archaeological evidence and the historic processes associated to them in order to strengthen the view of a feudal system in the historic town of Potes. |
