Popis: m r L o w r M n o n s d p m m Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is one of the most prevalent diseases in the world. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 9.27 million new cases of TB occurred in 2007, with approximately 55% of global cases arising in Asia (Southeast Asia and Western Pacific region). The high incidence of TB in developing countries is associated with poor hygiene and is a cause of concern for developed nations because of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and multidrugresistant TB. Of these 9.27 million cases, 1.37 million (14.8%) were positive for the human immunodeficiency virus. Tuberculosis more commonly affects the lungs, with secondary infection to other organs and tissues. In the maxillofacial region, it involves the tongue commonly and lesions can also be seen on the lips, gingiva, buccal mucosa, and jaw bones. However, rimary involvement of the temporomandibular joint TMJ) is very rare. This report describes a case of rimary TB of the TMJ.
